2024 marked Bob's 50th year of service with Indiana Members Credit Union Board of Directors.  He has been our Board Chairman since 2006! Other positions held on IMCU Board of Directors: Secretary, Chairman of Supervisory Committee, Chairman of Personnel Committee, and Board Advisory for Public Relations, Compensation Committee, IMCU CUSO Board Chairman, and Chair of Indiana Members Foundation Board.

 

Experience: Retired Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis, a position he held for 13 years. Previous positions include: Vice Chancellor for Administrative Affairs; Assistant to the University Controller; Director of Administrative Affairs and Bursar. Employed at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis for 40 years.

Ron was born in Central Indiana and a 1975 graduate of Warren Central High School.  He attended Ball State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education.  After college, he taught at Noblesville High School for three years, where he was also the baseball, football and swimming coach. He then worked for three years for the Indiana Credit Union League.  In 1985, Collier was hired on at Indiana Members Credit Union as the Training Director.  He established a unique system to train credit union staff. The design of the training center replicated a branch lobby. Trainees actually trained at a teller station and performed transactions with “Credit Union Cash”. Teller programs were not the only ones created and implemented, training addressed all aspects of the credit union. Collier created and implemented an employee retention and attendance program. That same program still exists today and is very successful.  Also established under his guidance was the Member Service Phone Center, which today processes more than 20,000 calls each month. As a member of the development team, he helped establish an automated phone service for members. This allowed them 24/7 access to their credit union accounts and information.

 

In 1992, Collier advanced to Vice President of Planning and Development, and continued to advance until 2003 when he became Chief Executive Officer of Indiana Members Credit Union. During that time, the introduction and implementation of several new products and services became available to members. Indiana Members continues to grow under his guidance, reaching $2 Billion in assets in 2019.  Also in 2019 under Collier’s leadership, IMCU acquired Commerce Bank increasing IMCU’s footprint in to Southern Indiana, adding branches to Evansville, Newburgh, and Jeffersonville & New Albany.  And in 2020 IMCU merged in Members Choice Credit Union, which added Bloomington as a new market as well. Collier embraces the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”.  He has been heavily involved in the community and served on the Indiana Make-A-Wish Board, St. Francis Hospital Foundation Board, as a member of the Credit Union Executive Society. CUNA National Youth Involvement Board, the planning committee for the New Palestine Relay for Life, President of the New Palestine high School Baseball Backers, and is an ISHAA football referee. He has also been involved and imitated several fund raising functions for Make-A-Wish, Riley Hospital for Children, Relay for Life and Backpack Attack.  Under his guidance Indiana Members Foundation was established in 2010 exclusively for the purpose of being a positive influence in the community served by Indiana Members Credit Union; specifically, providing school children in the Indianapolis area with the necessities essential for learning and succeeding in their education.

 

And after 37 years of service with IMCU, Ron Collier decided it was time to retire. But just before he retired in 2022, Collier was awarded NAFCU’s CEO of the Year Award for his leadership, outstanding long-term service to Indiana’s credit union movement, his focus on staff and community involvement and his devotion to IMCU.  A very fitting way to finish out his 37 year tenure.  

 

Collier and wife Debbie, have three children and five grandchildren: Ashley (Colin & Connor), Katie, and Daniel (Micah, Samuel & Joseph).  He enjoys spending time with family and friends, golf, fishing and cheering on the Colts, Pacers and Cubs.  

 

The Ron Collier Educational Scholarship is being awarded in his honor to an applicant who intends to major in primary or secondary education.

Indiana Members Credit Union

 

Miriam was born in Brooklyn, New York where she went on to attend public schools. And says she received a wonderful education.  She attended Brooklyn College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in history in 1960.  Then moved to the Midwest to continue her education at the University of Wisconsin.  She received her Master’s in history from there in 1961 and her Ph.D. in history in 1967.  Miriam joined the department of history at the IU Indianapolis extension campus in 1964 and became one of the founding members of the IUPUI department of history in 1969.  

 

In 1983, Miriam became a member of Indiana Members Credit Union’s Board of Directors, which was then known as IUI Federal Credit Union.  Miriam has served as the chair of the Asset Liability Subcommittee as well as a Member of the Technology / Security Subcommittee.  

 

In 1986, Langsam was promoted to Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the School of Liberal Arts. As Associate Dean, Langsam built a reputation as an outstanding administrator. She spent considerable time helping to improve student life at IUPUI. Langsam instituted changes to unify the system of grade changes, helped establish services for disabled students, and helped the student council gain greater control over allocations of student activity fee money. She also spent considerable time serving on campus development committees. Historian Ralph Gray noted in his history of IUPUI that Langsam served on more committees than anyone else at IUPUI.
